About

Dr. Jessica Otis
jotis2@gmu.edu
Class Location & Time: MW, 3-4:15pm, Zoom
Office Hours: By appointment; just send me an email or Slack message and we’ll figure out a time/place to meet.

Technological Requirements:

1. A device that connects to the internet, preferably a computer that runs Mac, Windows, or Linux operating system

Trying to figure out if your device(s) will do what you need for class? Download and ensure the following free software will run on your device – if you can get these programs running, you’re good to go!

  • Slack
  • Twine (note: there is a browser-based version if you don’t have a Mac or Windows OS)
  • Zoom
  • OPTIONAL: GitHub for Desktop (many people find it easier to access the GitHub website through their web browser instead of through the dedicated software)

If you don’t have and can’t obtain access to an appropriate device, please contact me ASAP and we’ll find a path forward for you.

Course Books:

1. Ian Mortimer, Time Traveler’s Guide to Elizabethan England

2. Robert Bucholz and Newton Key, Early Modern England, 1485-1714: A Narrative History (Note: the most current edition is the 3rd edition and what you will find at the GMU Bookstore, but the 2nd edition is available via GMU Libraries and is also sufficient for this course. We will only be using the first half of this book.)

Technical Assistance:

In addition to asking for help via the class Slack or consulting with me during office hours, students can receive technical assistance at the Digital Scholarship Center (https://dsc.gmu.edu/) in the University Libraries.
